Quotes from poet/ playwright/ fiction writer/ essayist/ teacher JULIA CAMERON who wrote "THE ARTIST'S WAY"*:

"I have many times marveled at the sleight of hand with which the universe delivers its treats."  (p.65)

          "The
what must come before the how.  First choose what you must do.  The how usually falls into place of itself." (p.66)

"We like to pretend it is hard to follow our heart's dreams.  The truth is, it is difficult to avoid walking through the many doors that will open.  Turn aside your dream and it will come back to you again.  Get willing to follow it again and a second mysterious door will swing open." (p.66)

*I was surprised that even my former instructor in photography, Leo Castillo (who is also a filmmaker), has read "THE ARTIST'S WAY" from cover to cover.  My classmate in basic photography class and fellow artist Ginny Mata has read it.  Even my Creative Non-fiction writing mentor Karla Delgado had also read it and recommended it to our class.  I first encountered this book in the Tandang Sora, Q.C. branch of the bargain bookstore Books for Less.  Sadly, I didn't know anything about it then but I was unequivocally convinced I SHOULD have it, so I immediately bought it.  To any artist who is serious about taking care of himself or herself and the gift he or she has been blessed with, this book is a must.  I'm pretty sure you'll encounter in this great book some of the nurturing little rituals and habits you've instinctively put into place in your own life and some more necessary help so that you can let more of your unique light shine forth.

As always, enjoy and may we get some good from all these. Ü

Hi Rigette!

Thanks for stopping by here and sharing your thoughts.Ü I can definitely relate to your experience! I've had my copy of "The Artist's Way" for quite some time. In fact, I was bogged down at Chapter 2 (really couldn't move forward with it) when my photography instructor saw my copy and revealed he had read it from cover to cover (and that was waaaayyyyyyy back in October 2006, hehe!). Much like you, I've learned that it's one of those books you can always go back to again and again, and most especially during those times in your life when you really need it (o diba, it's one of those cool and rad books!).Ü

And the morning pages every single day? Hehe. Natalie Goldberg of "Writing Down the Bones" says you can view it as an ideal. But when you wake up each morning or pause within the day, you can always choose to "rest on the page," treat yourself and let yourself just "be" during the time you're writing your morning pages. I can't say I've done my morning pages every day, but I've committed to doing it --- for myself, much like you.Ü And that's a really strong motivation right there, hehe! ;) And the artist's dates - hehe! - they're really fun, anoh?Ü It makes you creative and look closely at the things you really enjoy doing and just DO them, engage in them --- whether it's a ballet concert or buying fun, crazy stickers at the bookstore! ;)

I totally agree with you: "Keep the passion alive!". It is my hope that we just go through the entire experience of "The Artist's Way," in our own time and our own way. And enjoy and relish it, hehe! ;)

Take care and keep in touch, then, Rigette! Ü

You can read more about Julia Cameron and her books in the The Artist's Way Online. (The real "meat" is in the books.) I just posted her this official website of hers as a link on my Multiply, Enjoy, lildove, everyone. Ü
