"Up, Up and Away...in my Beautiful Balloon!" as the song goes, but this time, in the skies above Clarkfield Air Base in Pampanga, a few hours north of the capital city of Manila. These are our snapshots (my sister's and mine) from The 11th International Hot Air Balloon on its last morning, Sunday, February the 11th. As the pictures show and as we've read in so many books or heard from friends and acquaintances, flying truly is a joy. Enjoy your views from terra firma through our photos. In the future, see you up there in the air! ;)

Beautiful sight at dawn

At rest

Ready to fly any minute now!

The cats', my sister's and MY favorite balloon!

"Rainbow" Balloon gets ready to rumble!

...And we have lift-off, folks!

Flying higher...

...and higher!

Just beautiful: Sailing away in the sunrise.

thanks, viv! I wish we were able to get on a microflight or a balloon but we didn't. twas a good show but very, very hot. like what reuel said, "iitim ka" (you'll tan easily). turned out to be a foodfest for my sister lea and me...we had razon's halo-halo (a version with lots of macapuno, evaporated milk and lots of shaved ice) and bacon cheesedog (our fall-back since there were no more pita breads for the sharwarma to be wrapped in). twas good, twas good! Ü I had spotted a sisig place before we entered Clarkfield but we didn't get to stay and sample any other famous Kapampangan food. Maybe next time - LOLZ!!! ;P

True! Thanks reuel! Even the "sabits" or "extras" in the photos are interesting - a butt, an arm, etc. LOLZ! Twas fun to watch the show...and eat! There's something about the air in Pampanga that makes one just want to eat and eat....hmmmmm!

And you're right, twas hot! As it got later in the day it was harder to watch since the sun was high up in the sky and the rays get in your eyes so you can't watch the show really well...But good thing that for this event there WILL be a next time! ;)

for sure! we should have more of these balloon fests in the philippines, esp. in the summer...the sun, wind and sky are all great throughout the season! Ü

I LOVED the box-shaped WHISKAS balloon the best! Talk about standing out!!! Look closely in some of the pictures and see if you see a vertical box-shaped balloon...that'd be it! Ü

I wish I knew where you can get it here in Manila but I don't...Razon's Halo-halo is a good alternative to the other versions which are almost all beans and ice (no offense to these yummy ingredients...). Another recommendation is Pinoy Appetite's (in Citimall, Philcoa, QC) Halo-Halo with lots of macapuno, corn kernels, cornflakes, langka, sago and gulaman. Yum! Ü And there is another popular halo-halo parlor (JDC? JDG? gosh, I forget...) in Tabaco, Albay (down south of Manila in Region 5) that has super caramelly flan AND cheese added to their brand of our famous local dessert. Ü But back here in Manila I hear there's also an upscale hotel that serves halo-halo supersize and super-everything. Just forgot which one...Ü

thanks, donna! the hot air balloon fest was great. i realized i'd love to explore pampanga's nooks and crannies more really soon, starting with arayat (for the traditional food).

and yeah, the new haircut's rad! i throw in a wide headband or sash every now and then (and channel those 60's babes) and i can really confuse people: "but she looked 'macho' just yesterday! now she's really feminine and pixie-like. ano ba talaga, ateh?!" ;)
