for everyone

This is what it's like waking up to a Pasacao, Camarines Sur sunrise

Now THIS...is the Simple Life.

The fishermen's "day" may already be done, but ours is just starting...

This island's like a lone Bohol "Chocolate Hill"

Groggy but loving the beach-side morning...

Mum and Dad looking much like they're honeymooning...

See?!!! *wink, wink*

See...it looks like a "Chocolate Hill", I swear!

Anyone want coral?!!!

My sis Lea: Ako rin may coral!

Lea: One with the beach

Simply happy to be vacationing with fam on a glorious beach!

Sisters squinting at the sun

Looking much like Neil Armstrong's "One small step for man..."

Chill-chillin' on our porch at Eurasian Beach Resort (Pasacao, Camarines Sur)

With mum at a mini-Tiendesita on the resort

The family with Dad's generous friend Mr. Cu at Garden Restaurant in Naga City (yummy food alert!!!)

Two of Bicol's greatest treasures: Cagsaua Church and the beautifully perfect Mt. Mayon

i first heard bout the "rule of thirds" in my recently-concluded photography class (Oct.11-30). my instructor was photographer/film maker leo castillo. he's going to run another workshop this nov in makati then feb2007 at the jesuit communications foundation in AdMU's loyola campus. if you're interested, i can give you his contact details since his lectures are for shutterbugs of all skill levels, walks of life and temperament, hehe! leo has a way of explaining things really quite simply, but of course, as expected, he'll be all praises for a photo he believes is very good job AND an unrelenting critic for one he thinks can stand so much more improvement in ANY category (you can glean i've experienced both! *smile*).

back to the "rule of thirds"...i agree with you. if it serves the picture, use the rule. if it doesn't, no sweat, just break it! (haha) it's really instinct, an an eye for what's beautiful, what captures and holds my interest or what has impact on me (or what i think will have an impact on other people sometimes)...mostly, it's unconscious or automatic. that's the best way i can describe how i go about shooting, without any judgment on the quality of the pics themselves. Ü i'd also have to agree with leo that the most important of all is Theme, the message of the photo, how everything ties up neatly in that picture and is shown "clearly"...

and thanks for the compliment.Ü i believe taking pictures of familiar leisure spots in fresh, unique ways is always a great way to feel we really "own" our vacations and enjoy our "trips down memory lane" later on.

Oh vivien, it's really a beaut, the Bicol Region! We traveled by bus early in the AM and the ride from manila to naga lasted more than 9 hrs, i believe, but it was definitely worth seeing the beautiful rolling, tree studded hillsides of Bicolandia.Ü No wonder many Bicolanos have real pride of place! no worries, m sure you'll see it sometime. ;)

i donno with you guys but for me sunset inflicts more emotion than sunrise. :) all the hue and everything.
and emotion-wise its like saying goodbye. :)

I don't really get the "goodby"-feeling, but I do feel a great sense of something I can't understand when I look at the sunset. It's so, so, so beautiful...

thanks, meinschatz, thanks for sharing your thoughts! i appreciate it. Ü

"finding" that shot was really hard, i remember. Ü when i visit "famous spots" especially, the photographer in me is just so "makulit", hard to please, discontented with the same old way of seeing the place. i just really have to get a different view, a different perspective. i don't always succeed (hehehe) and there are rare times when i just wasn't up to it at all, but for finding new, unique and "dramatic" shots is the most gratifying way of taking pictures and making these "familiar" places really "mine"...Ü

Ganito talaga kaganda ang aming bansa, this is how beautiful our country is. The Mayon Volcano with the most perfect cone and Cagsawa Church showing just the belfry after so many years buried after the Mayon Volcano eruption. Thanks for sharing.
