for everyone

The road behind "Rock Inn", our Sagada accommodation

Sagada Sunrise

The lay of the land during a foggy sunrise

A cafe-cum-library literally at a right turn from the road you walk in

Ricefields of Sagada

The Sagada way of life: dedicated to tilling the land

Into the cavernous mouth of Sumaguing (The Big) Cave

Precious light streaming into the side of the cave's entrance

Slightly out-of-focus but happy amateur spelunker Pauie

Light down the heart of darkness

A group portrait of the Ocean State Team & friends in the bowels of Sumaguing Cave

Ocean State and the "13 Ghosts" (nah, it's just steam!)

Lack of light has never been an obstacle to another photo-op

Karl looking back at the straggler-cum-official photograher: me!

The scene was so perfect, I couldn't resist taking a photo of this other group of spelunkers

Ivie&Pau make-believing the steam was cigarette smoke

By some gorgeous rock formations: our group with French newlyweds Alpesh&Thelma

Even Sumaguing's frigid waters can't wipe the smiles off our faces

Take 2 with me, please!

A portrait of the official photographer by Ivie

Our Kankana'ei guide drawing water from the side of these weird rock formations

Time-out for Ivie

Lady of the Mist

Ivie and Thelma cheesing while submerged in chilly water

Sumaguing's stalactites

This photo doesn't do justice to this compartment of Sumaguing

Karl and Pauie posing for posterity

We sweet-talked our guide to wait a bit with the kerosene lamp 'til we finished this shot

Ivie & Dadah amidst Sumaguing's beautifully odd formations

Which side's up?

Fuzzy but happy spelunkers

Gung-ho Pauie comin' right up!

Steamy picture!!!

Josh, Ivie and Dadah (with Pony in the background) takin' advantage of one of the last few photo-ops inside the cave

Rock formations that look like taffy or candy...

You can't see much of 'im here but this was our helpful Kan'kana'ei guide

That was awesome! Let's do it again!

Ivie's last look down Sumaguing...

And again...let there be light!

So very near civilization again!

Ei, Max, is that you, dude?!!!

Grainy pic of Ivie caught literally with her pants down!!!

One last glance around at Sumaguing...

Yep, y'better believe it! I came from WAAAAAYYYYY down there!

Dadah taking a break before finally leaving the cave

Final steps leading back up the road to the village

Beautiful, simple Sagada children at play

I spy...Sagada ancestral burial coffins

Inside caves and on the face of the hill...

A close-up of the burial coffins on the side of the hill

Sagada homes by the hillside

Stopping to smell the "flowers"

Road to Sagada townsproper

Karl and Max scouring the town for a place to eat

Beautiful Sagada ladies: the Aunt camera-shy, the teener obliging

View of Sagada from Ganduyan Cafe (where pleasantly surprising good food can be had!)

Our Sagada sunrise before traveling back home

Side road leading to St. Mary's Episcopal Church

St. Mary's facade and grounds

St. Mary's: Simple, serene and simply beautiful

Another road, some other time...Sagada for always.

There was this article in Metroactive Mag entitled "Sagada Shangri-la" and I couldn't agree more...it's lovely walking around the place with the cool air lightly embracing one's body and the emerald rice terraces and mountains providing refreshment for jaded eyes. ;) I would love, LOVE to go back there! Sana matuloy kami this summer nung mga kasama ko sa Pulag...they've never been there...
